For safety reasons, more and more insurance companies are insisting that Portable Appliance Testing is carried out before an insurance policy can be renewed.
The Electricity at Work Regulations also place a legal responsibility on employers and self employed persons to take reasonable practical steps to ensure no danger results from the use of any electrical appliances.

More complicated repairs (e.g. replacement of an entire appliance cable assembly or a damaged wall socket) can be quoted at the time of testing and in most cases carried out whilst we are on site.

FAQ's
How many appliances do I have?
It is often quite a challenge to count the number of appliances you have but as a rule of thumb we say an average of 10 appliances per desk in the average office. If your still unsure we will gladly come and have a count up free of charge.
What’s involved
In order to ensure an appliance is safe for use it is necessary to carry out a number of tests. Firstly our engineer will carry out a visual inspection of the appliance checking for any obvious signs of damage, the engineer will then unplug the appliance and carry out a series of electrical tests on the appliance and determine weather it has passed or failed the tests.
Will the testing disrupt my business?
We always try our best to be as undisruptive as possible however, in a busy office it is advisable to have the testing carried out outside of normal working hours, we do not charge any extra for evening and weekend testing
What happens if an appliance fails?
If we fail an appliance it is because it is unsafe for use, this can be for a number of reasons such as a damaged cable, damaged plug or an incorrect fuse, if that is the case we will carry out a free repair of the appliance and then retest it. If there is an internal problem with the appliance or if the casing is damaged we will advise you not to use the appliance and fix a ‘Failed Do Not Use’ label.
What paperwork will I receive?
On completion of the testing you will receive a full schedule of test results along with a certificate stating the items tested, during the testing each appliance will have been given a unique barcode number so it can be easily be identified.
What about my server?
In an ideal world the server should be shut down so it can be tested but in certain circumstances this is simply not an option, in this case we will carry out a visual inspection only, this will be charged at 50% of the agreed rate.
